Nutrition Vs. Diet: are You Getting the Nutrients Your Body Needs?

Monday, December 21st, 2009

Author: Healing Headquarters LLC

Today we hear the word diet much more than we hear the word nutrition. There are so many diets on the market that it’s easy to get lost in the fad and forget what nutrition truly is. There is the Atkins Diet, the Zone Diet, Weight Watchers and many others, from Slim Fast to the various one-food diets, such as the cabbage soup diet or the grapefruit diet. Society has become fixated on the ‘diet’, instead of quality nutrition. Unfortunately, this fixation isn’t working. America is the fattest nation in the world, with high rates of diabetes, heart disease and other life threatening illnesses. While diets are becoming more popular, nutrition is suffering.

What is a diet?

We all want results. Whether it is more muscle, less fat, or both. We want results. You can lift all the weights you want and grind out session after session of interval training but if you aren’t paying attention to what you are eating then all this effort is a waste. The #1 most important part of any fat loss or muscle growth program is nutrition.

Nutrition is confusing though right?

There are new “discoveries” being reported by the media almost every day. It is a full time job keeping up with all this information. Fortunately you can get that body you want. A Quick 2 Step Guide To Losing Belly Fat And Getting Six Pack Abs

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Author: Avy Barnesyoga1

Listen, I understand that getting six pack abs isn’t a simple task….well, at least for majority of us. However, if you follow a simple plan and stay 100% consistent, results will come. Take a couple of minutes out of your busy day and read this article here to learn how to lose belly fat fast…

Step #1 : Proper Nutrition -  This, my friend, is the granddaddy of them all! Nutrition is the backbone of any diet. If done improperly, results will be minimal to none. You have to eat the proper foods, and eat the right amount of meals daily in order to lose stubborn belly fat. You could have the perfect set of abdominal muscles waiting to be revealed, but if they are covered with a layer of belly fat, they’re going to stay hidden! Eat 5-6 small healthy meals daily containing protein, complex carbs (whole grains), healthy fats (monounsaturated), fiber, and foods rich in vitamins and minerals.

Step #2 : Fitness – A good fitness plan would consist of cardio, weight training, and core exercises (ab exercises). Make sure you place your primary emphasis on weight training since having lean muscle will burn off more calories…even while you rest. I recommend for you to workout 3-4 times a week. Another tip is to make sure you get complex carbs (banana) before your workout, and plenty of protein (protein shake) after your workout. This will assure your muscle tissue grows and grow properly.

Some Tips for Healthy Holiday Eating

Author: Jan RichardsWinter+Fruit+Glazed+Turkey

When the holidays arrive, many people forget all about their diets and healthy eating. Weight gains of 7 – 10 pounds are common between Halloween and Christmas. To make the holidays easier, these tips will help you with healthy eating through the season and not gaining weight. Most traditional foods can be made low fat.  Turkey is very lean without the skin, and gravy can be made without any fat. Potatoes that are served without butter can be very healthy. The beloved pumpkin pie is nutritious, although it can be made into a fatty dessert with the adding of whipped cream.

Even though the holidays are in, don’t forget about the exercise. Keeping weight off during the holiday season is burning off the extra calories. You should plan a walk after meals, park farther from stores when you shop, and take a few walks around the mall before you begin shopping.
